Description

Both sides of HK-315 picture the grounds of the 1904 St. Louis fair, each under the words "Worlds Fair St. Louis." The obverse shows the Cascade Gardens with a building behind them. The reverse carries the United States Government Building with its statistics below: 764 feet long, built at a cost of 450,000 dollars. The federal presence at the exposition was extensive and included a working Mint exhibit, where the official souvenirs were coined; this brass piece, though, belongs to the private Exhibition Palace series, struck with a reeded edge and beaded borders. Hibler and Kappen list the same dies in aluminum as HK-316, and the Cascade Gardens side again on the Liberal Arts pieces, HK-317 and HK-318. Brass, 36 mm.
