Description
The Palace of Liberal Arts at the 1904 St. Louis fair measured 525 by 750 feet and cost 475,000 dollars, according to the reverse of HK-317, which shows the building and its grounds under "Worlds Fair St. Louis." The obverse repeats the Cascade Gardens die of HK-315, gardens with a building behind them and the same heading. Hibler and Kappen file it with the Exhibition Palace dollars, a group of reeded-edge medals that paired views of the exposition's buildings with their dimensions and costs. The Liberal Arts reverse turns up again behind the Palace of Manufacturers on HK-322a and HK-322b. This piece is brass, 36 mm; the aluminum version is HK-318.
