Larger than the first U.S. Government Building medals, HK-331 is a 37 mm bronze version with a reeded edge, struck from dies similar to those of HK-328: joined busts of Lewis and Clark over a crossed rifle, oar and telescope on one side, and the Government Building with Portland, Oregon, and "Centennial Exposition" on the other. The same 37 mm group exists in gilt bronze (HK-331a) and aluminum (HK-331b), and Hibler and Kappen list 38 mm and 35 mm versions as well. The exposition, open in Portland through the summer and early autumn of 1905, gave the state's own exhibits a strong emphasis on fisheries, forestry and mining, while seven main exhibition palaces housed the usual range of a national fair. Its purpose was to mark a hundred years since the Lewis and Clark expedition.
