Description
At 43 mm, HK-312 is a large aluminum souvenir of the 1904 Louisiana Purchase Exposition. Its obverse groups five small round panels, each holding a building, with a star at each corner, all inside a beaded circle lettered "Louisiana Purchase Exposition." above and "St. Louis, U. S. A." below. The reverse is boastful: inside a wreath, a long inscription claims that the noblest work of twenty centuries has been gathered on historic soil and that the sun may never again shine on such splendor. Crossed flags and a shield dated 1904 sit under the wreath, and "Historical Souvenir World's Fair" runs around the top. Hibler and Kappen give no maker for it. The fair it praises ran in St. Louis from April 30 to December 1, 1904.
