Description

The 1903 Proof Philippine Ten Centavos is a proof silver ten-centavo coin struck at the Philadelphia Mint in 1903 for the Philippine Islands under United States administration. The ten centavos of 1903-1906 weighs 41.55 grains (2.69 grams) of .900 silver, the standard of the act of March 2, 1903. Figueroa's obverse for the silver coins shows a young woman in a long gown striking an anvil with a hammer, Mount Mayon behind her; the reverse has the eagle on the United States shield and the date. Philadelphia struck business coins in 1903 and 1904 and the proofs of 1903-1906, and San Francisco struck the 1903 and 1904 coins with an S to the left of the date. Proofs were struck at the Philadelphia Mint for the Philippine proof sets sold from 1903 to 1908. Greysheet's listing and the Krause catalogue both record 2,558 pieces. Catalogue numbers: KM-165. PCGS number 90268.
