The 1903 Louisiana Purchase Exposition Commemorative Gold Dollar - McKinley is a United States Gold Dollar from the Classic Gold Commemoratives (1903-1926) series — the first year of the series. The Philadelphia Mint struck 250,258 Louisiana Purchase gold dollars of the two designs; catalogs list 17,500 of the McKinley design kept, net, after the melt of unsold coins, though the Mint recorded no split of the melted coins by design. The obverse features designs varying by commemorative issue and the reverse displays designs varying by commemorative issue. Produced during the Progressive Era, when President Theodore Roosevelt championed a renaissance in American coin design.
