1897-S VAM-1B Counterclash Lips, Inverted S, Die Gouges Wreath Bow Discovered January 2011. 1B III2 1 · C3a (Counterclash Lips, Inverted S, Die Gouges Wreath Bow) (190) Obverse III2 1 – Die clash marks polished off except for counterclash at Liberty's lips. Reverse C3a – Same diagonal die gouges in center and lower right outside of wreath bow as VAM-4, but polished down somewhat. Die Clash marks polished off except for top right of left wreath. DPIS - Emission Sequence Obverse: Reverse: Comments: Different counterclash with hardly any regular die clash marks! Actually has same reverse as 1897-S VAM-19 and 1897-S VAM-20. An evil mimic of the VAM 4 reverse The present obverse stage appears to also be used with a different reverse
