1895-S VAM-4 S Over Horizontal S Discovered by Tom DeLorey, November 1979. This coin is a Top 100 Morgan VAM. 4 III2 2 • C3d (S Over Horizontal S) (188) Obverse III2 2 - 9 doubled at top left of upper loop, and at the lower outside at the loop closure. Reverse C3d - S mint mark repunched over a horizontal S. DPIS - ;Emission Sequence :Obverse: :Reverse: Comments: # This popular variety features the dramatic remnants of a mispunched horizontal S mintmark below the properly set vertical S mintmark. It is one of the top two 1895-S VAMs sought and is known in MS condition. PL and DMPL coins are usually [[1895-S VAM-4. # Exact same obverse die used to produce [[1895-S VAM-4, [[1895-S VAM-5, [[1895-S VAM-6 & [[1895-S VAM-6A. # Reverse die later polished down and used on [[1895-S VAM-1.
