Description
The 1894 Barber Dime is a dime produced at the Philadelphia Mint as part of the Barber Dimes 1892-1916 series. Total mintage reached 1.3 million. The obverse features Liberty facing right wearing a Phrygian cap topped by a laurel wreath, with the word LIBERTY on a headband, while the reverse displays an agricultural wreath of corn, wheat, oak, and maple enclosing the words ONE DIME. Designed by Charles E. Barber. Struck in 90% silver, 10% copper, weighing 2.5 grams, 17.9 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #4803. Chief Engraver Charles Barber designed a unified series of dimes, quarters, and half dollars that bore his name — the first coordinated multi-denomination design family in U.S. The 1894-S Barber Dime (mintage 24) is one of the great U.S. coin rarities. Other key dates include the 1895-O, 1901-S, and 1903-S.
