Description
A medal demanding free coinage of silver, struck in silver: HK-1006 is the silver version of the Colorado Building piece whose aluminum striking is HK-210. Its reverse pictures Colorado's building at the Chicago world's fair inside the legend "World's Fair Colorado Building / Our Slogan Free Coinage of Silver," and its obverse shows Columbus wearing a ruffed collar, facing right, between "Christopher Columbus" and the dates 1492-1892 set between groups of stars. Eglit lists the silver piece as 497 and the aluminum one as 497A. Hibler and Kappen give the size on the aluminum line, 38 mm, and also record HK-210a, which swaps Columbus for the Administration Building. Free coinage of silver was the cause William Jennings Bryan would carry into the presidential campaign of 1896. HK-1006 is silver, 1892.
