About This Coin
The 1892 Liberty Head Eagle is a United States Gold Eagle from the Liberty Head Eagles 1838-1907 series. The Philadelphia, New Orleans, San Francisco and Carson City Mints struck 981,740 eagles dated 1892, including 72 proofs. The obverse features Liberty facing left wearing a coronet inscribed LIBERTY and the reverse displays a heraldic eagle with shield on breast, olive branch and arrows in talons, with the motto IN GOD WE TRUST on a scroll above the eagle. Columbian Exposition year. Carson City, Philadelphia, New Orleans, and San Francisco struck eagles. Struck in 90% gold, 10% copper, weighing 16.72 grams, 27 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge.
