Description

Aluminum version of the Electrical Building medal, HK-189 follows the reeded brass HK-188 and the silver-plated brass HK-188a, and shares their Eglit number, 126. The building is shown on the reverse at 345 feet wide and 700 long, with its cost of 401,000 dollars in the lettering. The obverse has Columbus facing left within a wreath and a circle, the fair's name above and "Chicago 1893" below. Visitors to the fair saw Edison's phonograph, the linotype and early electric illumination on a scale no earlier fair had tried. The listing places the group at 35 mm. Another Chicago piece, HK-161a, shows the Electrical Building too, but on a smaller aluminum design with an advertising reverse. Its dedication took place in the autumn of 1892.
