Description
Three exposition buildings and no portrait appear on HK-181a. Its obverse is the Horticultural Building side from HK-187, a hall 250 feet by 1,000 with a stated cost of 300,000 dollars; its reverse is the two-building design of HK-180 and HK-181, with Forestry above and Transportation below. Hibler and Kappen list this combination in aluminum with a reeded edge at 35 mm, and in brass with a plain edge as HK-181b, so here the edge treatment runs opposite to the usual Exhibition Palace pattern, in which the brass pieces are reeded. The listing gives it no Eglit number. The fair whose buildings it pictures was dedicated in Chicago on October 21, 1892, a date matched to Columbus's landfall of October 12, 1492, after the change of calendar. This is the aluminum striking.
