Description

This is the brass version of a piece that pairs two building faces, the Art Palace and the Agricultural Building. The first is captioned "The Art Palace" with dimensions of 320 by 500 feet and a cost of 670,000 dollars; the second, "The Agricultural Building," is 500 by 800 feet and lettered at 618,000. Neither face shows Columbus. Hibler and Kappen list HK-185b between the reeded-edge aluminum HK-185a, which Eglit numbers 123, and the plain-edge silver-plated brass HK-185c; they do not describe the edge of this brass one. The group is 35 mm. Each side was cut first as the reverse of a Columbus-bust medal, the Art Palace on HK-184 and the Agricultural Building on HK-196. The fair, dedicated in 1892, had twelve great exhibition palaces of this kind among some two hundred other buildings.
