Description
HK-181b, in brass with a plain edge, is a mule of two building faces from Chicago's Exhibition Palace dollars. Its obverse is the Horticultural Building, given as 250 by 1,000 feet and 300,000 dollars, a design that served as the reverse of HK-186, HK-186a and HK-187. Its reverse puts two halls on one face: the Forestry Building on top, 208 by 525 feet, and the Transportation Building below, 250 by 960 feet, the side first struck behind the Columbus bust of HK-180 and HK-181. The aluminum version of this mule, with a reeded edge, is HK-181a; usually it is the brass pieces that are reeded in this series. Both share the 35 mm size. Opening day for visitors came on May 1, 1893, after the dedication of October 1892.
