Description
Three exposition buildings, drawn one above the other, make up the reverse of HK-167a, while its obverse repeats the general view of the grounds used on HK-167, headed "The Worlds Columbian Exposition" and dated 1893 beneath "Chicago, U.S.A." On HK-167 the back shows the Santa Maria instead. Hibler and Kappen list this pairing in aluminum (HK-167a, 38 mm) and copper (HK-167b), and the stacked buildings were used again as the obverse of HK-204. The Chicago fair these souvenirs advertised brought twelve great exhibition palaces and about two hundred lesser buildings to the lakefront, enough, as the exposition boasted, to put some 250 acres under roof. Its Manufactures Building was billed as the largest on earth. This aluminum piece belongs to the fair dedicated in October 1892.
