Description

HK-620 joins two existing designs and carries no date. One side is the Iowa State Capitol from the 1890 Des Moines pageant medal (HK-619), with "Iowa State Capitol" above the building and its three-million-dollar cost below, inside a beaded border. The other side is a reverse already used on another HK listing, one whose lettering opens with the words "Malleable, Tasteless." Because of that shared die, Hibler and Kappen suggest the piece may have come out of the World's Columbian Exposition at Chicago in 1893 rather than from the Des Moines celebration, which honored the mock king Seni Om Sed alongside the Iowa State Fair. It is struck in aluminum and measures 37 mm, the same size as the dated 1890 type in white metal and brass.
