Description

HK-590 is an aluminum medal of the Board of Trade of Bridgeport, Connecticut, struck on a thick planchet and measuring 45 mm. In a sunken center the obverse shows a view of industrial Bridgeport, ringed by two circles carrying "Seal of Board of Trade Bridgeport, Conn 1876," and an outer boast that this was "The Best City on the Western Hemisphere." The reverse calls the piece a local pride souvenir of "the Industrial Capital of Connecticut," adds that it was made in Bridgeport, and around the edge reads "Compliments of the Board of Trade." Hibler and Kappen file it under 1876, the year in the seal legend, but give no history of the board or of when the medal was handed out. The same design also exists in copper as HK-590a.
