Description

In white metal, HK-126c is the Valley Forge anniversary medal of 1890 that carries Washington's portrait on the reverse: a bare bust facing right in a sunken circle, named as Gen. Geo. Washington, above a row of thirteen stars. The obverse is the headquarters design, a building with "Headquarters" above it, the date June 19, 1890, below, and around it a legend marking the 112th anniversary of the army's evacuation of the camp. It is 35 mm, like the silver HK-126a and the copper HK-126b; the white metal HK-126 has a wreath reverse instead. The Continental Army moved out of Valley Forge on June 19, 1778, after a bitter winter in which close to 3,000 of its soldiers fell sick or were unable to serve. Several Valley Forge anniversaries produced medals.
