Description

Boston's "American Exhibition of Foreign Products, Arts and Manufactures" is announced ahead of its opening on this 1883 medal: the eagle side carries the words "Opens in Sept. 1883" beneath a large bird with spread wings, with "E Pluribus Unum" on a ribbon over it and "American Exhibition" across the top. The other side pictures the exhibition building, titled with the full name of the show, and below it "Boston, Mass. U. S. A." over a scroll. A tiny signature, W. M. St., sits at the lower right of the building. The design is listed in three metals: white metal for HK-594, bronze for HK-594a and silver for HK-594b. The source gives no maker beyond those initials and no account of the exhibition itself, so the lettering is the record of the event. This piece is white metal and measures 41 mm.
