1883 Hawaiian Quarter - 1883/1383 Overdate
Strike TypeCoin Details
Description
This 1883 Hawaiian quarter dollar shows the 8 of the date cut over a 3, so that the date was first punched as 1383. Chief Engraver Charles E. Barber designed the 1883 silver coins of King Kalakaua, which the San Francisco Mint struck in 1883 and 1884 without a mint mark; the Director of the Mint reported 500,000 quarter dollars. Medcalf and Russell list it as a variety of the quarter, 2CS-3a; PCGS records it as 1883/1383 under the quarter. It is not a dollar. Catalogue numbers: Medcalf-Russell 2CS-3a. PCGS number 245404.
