Comments: # This is just the fourth die pairing known for '82-CC Morgan dollars, and the first to have been discovered since 1976. # The 1882-CC VAM-7 pairing was created when the well-used VAM-2 sequence pairing was finally broken up by retiring the nearly exhausted "Winged 'L'" Rev (C3b) and coupling a fresh Rev (C3c) with the Very Late Die State 1882-CC VAM-2 Obv. # While in this configuration a single clashing event occurred. # The possibility that this event might have been 'fatal' to the VLDS Obv in use at that time had to be considered until a clashed 1882-CC VAM-7 was found. # The existence of a 1882-CC VAM-7 specimen exhibiting the effects of this VAM-7 pairing clash event was confirmed in November, 2014. # Soon after that clash event and a small amount of additional production, the VLDS VAM-2/VAM-7 Obv was also replaced, creating VAM-3. # Examples of any kind of this short-lived, transitional VAM-7 die pairing are very rare. # Including the 1st one sighted in March, 2012, just nine examples (6 un-clashed, 3 clashed) have been reported. (June 21st, 2018).
