Description
Produced at the Carson City Mint, the 1881 (CC) Morgan Dollar is part of the Morgan Dollars 1878-1921 series. With a mintage of 296,000, this is an extremely rare issue — the lowest mintage among 4 mint variants, representing only 1% of total production. The obverse features Liberty facing left wearing a Phrygian cap adorned with wheat and cotton, encircled by stars and the reverse displays an eagle with outstretched wings clutching an olive branch and arrows, surrounded by a wreath. The 1881-CC remained in Treasury vaults until released in GSA sales in the 1970s, surviving in remarkable condition. Coined at the Carson City Mint in Nevada, which operated for just 23 years (1870–1893) and produced coins now prized for their scarcity and Western provenance. S. numismatics.
