Description
The 1881 (CC) Morgan Dollar is a dollar produced at the Carson City Mint as part of the Morgan Dollars 1878-1921 series. With a mintage of 296,000, this is an extremely rare issue — the lowest mintage among 4 mint variants, representing only 1% of total production. The obverse features Liberty facing left wearing a Phrygian cap adorned with wheat and cotton, encircled by stars and the reverse displays an eagle with outstretched wings clutching an olive branch and arrows, surrounded by a wreath. The 1881-CC remained in Treasury vaults until released in GSA sales in the 1970s, surviving in remarkable condition. Struck at the Carson City Mint in Nevada, which operated from 1870 to 1893 and produced coins from Comstock Lode silver and gold — among the most collectible mintmarks in U.S. numismatics. Estimated market value ranges from $425 to $1.4K depending on grade and condition. Struck in 90% silver, 10% copper, weighing 26.73 grams, 38.1 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge.
