Description
The 1880 (CC) Morgan Dollar - 8/High 7 was struck at the Carson City Mint as a dollar in the Morgan Dollars 1878-1921 series. The 1880-CC Morgan dollar had 591,000 struck and 495,000 issued across all of its overdate and reverse varieties; how many show the 8/High 7 is not recorded. The obverse features Liberty facing left wearing a Phrygian cap adorned with wheat and cotton, encircled by stars and the reverse displays an eagle with outstretched wings clutching an olive branch and arrows, surrounded by a wreath. Struck during the Gilded Age of rapid industrialization and the great silver debates, when monetary policy shaped elections and economic destiny. Carson City's Nevada mint, active from 1870 to 1893, produced coins from Comstock Lode metal that rank among the most sought-after in U.S. numismatics. Struck in 90% silver, 10% copper, weighing 26.73 grams, 38.1 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #7102.
