Strike TypeCoin Details
Description
The 1879 Proof Dollar Pattern - J-1610 is a proof dollar pattern struck at the Philadelphia Mint, part of the Metric & Stella Patterns (1874-1879) series. This is George T. Morgan's Schoolgirl dollar, whose reverse is a modified version of his 1877 half dollar reverse (J-1512). David Proskey gave it the name in the April 1891 Doughty sale. The single example has been described as both white metal and lead; it passed through the Doughty, Hull and Brand collections. It is struck in lead with a reeded edge. USPatterns.com lists it as unique. It is also catalogued as Pollock-1806, Adams-Woodin 1594 and Taxay EP1154. Cataloged as PCGS #61988.
