Description
The 1879 Proof Dime Pattern - J-1588 is a proof dime pattern struck at the Philadelphia Mint, part of the Metric & Stella Patterns (1874-1879) series. This is part of George T. Morgan's uniform silver design of 1879, which put a modified version of his dollar head on the dime, quarter and half dollar, with five leaves instead of four above the LIBERTY ribbon. A complete set is in the Smithsonian. This is the second of Morgan's two dime reverses; over a dozen are known in silver. It is struck in silver with a reeded edge. USPatterns.com rates it R-6. It is also catalogued as Pollock-1781, Adams-Woodin 1626 and Taxay EP1131. Cataloged as PCGS #61965.
