Description
The 1879 Proof Dime Pattern - J-1586 is a proof dime pattern struck at the Philadelphia Mint, part of the Metric & Stella Patterns (1874-1879) series. This is part of George T. Morgan's uniform silver design of 1879, which put a modified version of his dollar head on the dime, quarter and half dollar, with five leaves instead of four above the LIBERTY ribbon. A complete set is in the Smithsonian. Morgan made two dime reverses, differing in the wreath; over a dozen of this one are known in silver. It is struck in silver with a reeded edge. USPatterns.com rates it R-6. It is also catalogued as Pollock-1779, Adams-Woodin 1628 and Taxay EP1129. Cataloged as PCGS #61963.
