Description

General Anthony Wayne's military bust, facing left, fills the obverse of this 1879 medal for the centennial of the Battle of Stony Point, with his name above, the date July 16th 1879 below the bust, and "Centennial anniversary of the battle of Stony Point" around the edge inside a beaded border. The reverse shows the battle itself, a scene of the assault, with the Latin "Stony Point expugnatum," meaning Stony Point taken by storm, above and the date of the attack in Roman numerals, "XV July MDCCLXXIX," below. HK-122 is the bronze striking, 34 mm, and a white metal version is HK-122a. Hibler and Kappen give no maker for it. Wayne appears again in their listing on Alfred S. Robinson's earlier medal, HK-133, whose reverse names Stony Point among four of his battles.
