Description
The 1877 Proof Quarter Pattern - J-1500 is a proof quarter pattern struck at the Philadelphia Mint, part of the Metric & Stella Patterns (1874-1879) series. The obverse is William Barber's Liberty head often called the sailor head, which he had used on the 1875 twenty-cent, half eagle and eagle patterns and on the 1876 dollar patterns; in 1877 it went onto the dime, quarter, half dollar and dollar. About eight are known in copper; two of them were silver-plated, and one has been slabbed as silver in error. It is struck in copper with a reeded edge. USPatterns.com rates it R-7. It is also catalogued as Pollock-1653, Adams-Woodin 1542 and Taxay EP1030. Cataloged as PCGS #61835.
