Description
The 1877 (CC) Trade Dollar is a dollar produced at the Carson City Mint as part of the Trade Dollars 1873-1885 series. With a mintage of 534,000, this is a scarce issue — the lowest mintage among 5 mint variants, representing only 3% of total production. The obverse features Liberty seated facing left, holding an olive branch extended to the viewer, with a sheaf of wheat behind and the reverse displays an eagle perched on a bale of goods, with an olive branch and three arrows. The 1877-S with a mintage of over 9.5 million is the highest-production Trade Dollar and the most available date for type collectors. Struck at the Carson City Mint in Nevada, which operated from 1870 to 1893 and produced coins from Comstock Lode silver and gold — among the most collectible mintmarks in U.S. numismatics. Estimated market value ranges from $426 to $7.9K depending on grade and condition. Struck in 90% silver, 10% copper, weighing 27.2 grams, 38.1 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge.
