Description
The 1875 Proof Three Dollar Pattern - J-1437 is a proof three-dollar pattern struck at the Philadelphia Mint, part of the Metric & Stella Patterns (1874-1879) series. It was struck from the regular 1875 three-dollar gold piece dies. USPatterns.com believes the 1875 off-metal pieces from regular dies were struck on purpose for sale to collectors in complete sets, cent through double eagle, in copper and aluminum. USPatterns.com confirms one aluminum example and believes that the gilt pieces offered as J-1437 are gilt copper strikings of J-1436. NGC's census also lists gilt examples of this Judd number. It is struck in aluminum with a reeded edge. USPatterns.com rates it R-8. It is also catalogued as Pollock-1580 and Adams-Woodin 1413. Cataloged as PCGS #61744.
