Description
The 1875 Proof Three Dollar Pattern - J-1436 is a proof three-dollar pattern struck at the Philadelphia Mint, part of the Metric & Stella Patterns (1874-1879) series. It was struck from the regular 1875 three-dollar gold piece dies. USPatterns.com believes the 1875 off-metal pieces from regular dies were struck on purpose for sale to collectors in complete sets, cent through double eagle, in copper and aluminum. Four or five are known in copper, several of them gilt; USPatterns.com found by weight that gilt pieces offered as the aluminum J-1437 are copper. NGC's census also lists gilt examples of this Judd number. It is struck in copper with a reeded edge. USPatterns.com rates it R-7. It is also catalogued as Pollock-1579 and Adams-Woodin 1412. Cataloged as PCGS #61743.
