Description
The 1874 Proof Three Cent Pattern - J-1349 is a proof three-cent pattern struck at the Philadelphia Mint, part of the Metric & Stella Patterns (1874-1879) series. It was struck from the regular 1874 nickel three-cent dies. USPatterns.com believes the 1874 off-metal pieces from regular dies were struck on purpose for sale to collectors in complete sets, cent through double eagle, in copper and aluminum. Two aluminum examples are confirmed; spark-erosion counterfeits in copper and aluminum are known. It is struck in aluminum with a plain edge. USPatterns.com rates it R-8. It is also catalogued as Pollock-1493 and Adams-Woodin 1396. Cataloged as PCGS #61653.
