Description
The 1874 Proof Three Cent Pattern - J-1348 is a proof three-cent pattern struck at the Philadelphia Mint, part of the Metric & Stella Patterns (1874-1879) series. It was struck from the regular 1874 nickel three-cent dies. USPatterns.com believes the 1874 off-metal pieces from regular dies were struck on purpose for sale to collectors in complete sets, cent through double eagle, in copper and aluminum. USPatterns.com believes only two copper examples exist, ex Brenner and Brand and ex Woodin and Newcomer, and notes that spark-erosion counterfeits are known. It is struck in copper with a plain edge. USPatterns.com rates it R-8. It is also catalogued as Pollock-1492. Cataloged as PCGS #61652.
