Description
Proof three cent pattern struck in 1874, early in the metric coinage movement when Mint Director Henry Linderman and Chief Engraver William Barber began exploring designs for internationally compatible denominations. This proof striking in nickel or copper-nickel is part of the three-cent nickel design exploration conducted at the Philadelphia Mint under Chief Engraver William Barber.
