Description
The 1874 Proof Nickel Pattern - J-1351 is a proof five-cent pattern struck at the Philadelphia Mint, part of the Metric & Stella Patterns (1874-1879) series. It was struck from the regular 1874 Shield nickel dies. USPatterns.com believes the 1874 off-metal pieces from regular dies were struck on purpose for sale to collectors in complete sets, cent through double eagle, in copper and aluminum. Two aluminum examples are confirmed. It is struck in aluminum with a plain edge. USPatterns.com rates it R-8. It is also catalogued as Pollock-1495 and Adams-Woodin 1394. Cataloged as PCGS #61655.
