Description
Proof nickel pattern struck in 1874, early in the metric coinage movement when Mint Director Henry Linderman and Chief Engraver William Barber began exploring designs for internationally compatible denominations. This proof striking in copper-nickel is part of the five-cent nickel design variants under the Shield or Liberty Head series conducted at the Philadelphia Mint under Chief Engraver William Barber.
Rarity Notes
R-6 to R-7 (Very Rare to Extremely Rare). Most pattern issues from this period survive in very limited numbers.
