The 1874 Proof Nickel Pattern - J-1350 is a proof five-cent pattern struck at the Philadelphia Mint, part of the Metric & Stella Patterns (1874-1879) series. It was struck from the regular 1874 Shield nickel dies. USPatterns.com believes the 1874 off-metal pieces from regular dies were struck on purpose for sale to collectors in complete sets, cent through double eagle, in copper and aluminum. Two copper examples are confirmed. It is struck in copper with a plain edge. USPatterns.com rates it R-8. It is also catalogued as Pollock-1494 and Adams-Woodin 1392 and 1393. Cataloged as PCGS #61654.
