Description
The 1874 Proof Cent Pattern - J-1347 is a proof cent pattern struck at the Philadelphia Mint, part of the Metric & Stella Patterns (1874-1879) series. It was struck from the regular 1874 Indian Head cent dies. USPatterns.com believes the 1874 off-metal pieces from regular dies were struck on purpose for sale to collectors in complete sets, cent through double eagle, in copper and aluminum. Two aluminum examples are confirmed, one ex Brenner (shown at the 1914 ANS exhibition) and Brand, the other ex Woodin and Newcomer. It is struck in aluminum with a plain edge. USPatterns.com rates it R-8. It is also catalogued as Pollock-1490 and Adams-Woodin 1398. Cataloged as PCGS #61651.
