Description
Proof cent pattern struck in 1874, early in the metric coinage movement when Mint Director Henry Linderman and Chief Engraver William Barber began exploring designs for internationally compatible denominations. This proof striking in copper or bronze is part of the minor coinage design studies for the one-cent denomination conducted at the Philadelphia Mint under Chief Engraver William Barber.
Rarity Notes
R-6 to R-7 (Very Rare to Extremely Rare). Most pattern issues from this period survive in very limited numbers.
