Description

Part of the Trade Dollars 1873-1885 series, the 1874 (CC) Trade Dollar is a dollar from the Carson City Mint. With a mintage of 1.4 million, this is a less common issue — ranked 2nd of 4 mint variants by mintage, with 17% of production. The obverse features Liberty seated facing left, holding an olive branch extended to the viewer, with a sheaf of wheat behind and the reverse displays an eagle perched on a bale of goods, with an olive branch and three arrows. Production ramped up across Philadelphia, Carson City, and San Francisco as the Trade Dollar gained traction in Pacific trade routes. The Carson City Mint operated from 1870 to 1893, striking coins from Comstock Lode silver and gold — among the most collected mintmarks in numismatics. S. numismatics.
