Description

The copper companion to J-1270, this quarter pattern provides the base-metal version of the denomination in its final Trade Dollar era appearance. With just two varieties compared to fifteen in 1871 and five in 1872, the 1873 quarter pattern program had been reduced to its absolute minimum, confirming that the denomination required no design changes under the new coinage legislation. The quarter would continue with the Seated Liberty design through the end of the decade.
