Description
The 1873 Proof Double Eagle Pattern - J-1344 is a proof double eagle pattern struck at the Philadelphia Mint, part of the Trade Dollar Era Patterns (1871-1873) series. It was struck from the regular 1873 double eagle dies. USPatterns.com regards the 1873 copper and aluminum strikings from regular dies as pieces made for sale to collectors in complete sets, cent through double eagle. Three or four are known in copper, one of them silver-plated according to Pollock. NGC's census also lists gilt examples of this Judd number. It is struck in copper with a reeded edge. USPatterns.com rates it R-7. It is also catalogued as Pollock-1488 and Adams-Woodin 1282. Cataloged as PCGS #61632.
