Description
The copper companion to J-1193, this dime pattern completes the abbreviated two-variety dime program for 1872. The reduction from sixteen dime patterns in 1871 to just two in 1872 reflects the natural progression of the Trade Dollar era program from comprehensive experimentation to targeted refinement. The dime, assured of surviving the coming Coinage Act, needed no further design exploration.
