Description
The aluminum companion to J-1099, this quarter pattern extends the design variant into the lightweight exotic metal. With each successive aluminum quarter pattern in the 1871 series, the Mint accumulated additional evidence about how different design treatments performed on this challenging material, building a body of practical knowledge about aluminum coinage that would prove prescient a century later.
