Description

Opening the fifteen-variety quarter pattern group for 1871, J-1090 features a Seated Liberty obverse with IN GOD WE TRUST on a scroll above the figure and a heraldic eagle reverse with the denomination QUAR. DOL. below. Struck in the standard silver alloy, this quarter pattern directly tested how the proposed Linderman composition would perform at the quarter dollar's established weight and diameter, a critical evaluation since the quarter was America's workhorse silver denomination for everyday commerce.
