The 1871 Proof Eagle Pattern - J-1175 is a proof eagle pattern struck at the Philadelphia Mint, part of the Trade Dollar Era Patterns (1871-1873) series. It was struck from the regular 1871 eagle dies. USPatterns.com regards the 1871 off-metal strikings from the regular dies as pieces made for sale to collectors in complete sets, cent through double eagle, rather than true die trials. Only the Woodin (1914 ANS exhibition), Newcomer and Farouk nickel piece is believed to exist. It is struck in nickel with a reeded edge. USPatterns.com lists it as unique. It is also catalogued as Pollock-1317 and Adams-Woodin 1081. Cataloged as PCGS #61438.
