Description
Featuring the Liberty Head with coronet obverse and heraldic eagle reverse of the production eagle ($10 gold coin), J-1173 was struck in the standard silver alloy. The eagle denomination, representing ten dollars in gold, was the largest commonly produced gold coin in the American series, and its inclusion in the Trade Dollar era testing program reflected the comprehensive scope of Linderman's coinage reform vision. The transformation of America's premier gold coin into a silver-alloy pattern was both visually striking and conceptually bold.
