Description
Featuring the Liberty Head obverse and heraldic eagle reverse of the production double eagle ($20 gold coin), J-1176 was struck in the standard silver alloy. The double eagle, America's largest denomination coin containing nearly an ounce of gold, represented the pinnacle of the coinage hierarchy, and its inclusion in the Trade Dollar era pattern program demonstrated the absolute comprehensiveness of the testing effort. A standard silver double eagle represents the most dramatic denomination-to-composition contrast in the entire program.
