1871 Proof Cent Pattern - J-1041
Strike TypeCoin Details
Description
Struck in the experimental standard silver alloy as part of the expanded Trade Dollar era pattern program, J-1041 carries the familiar Indian Head obverse with LIBERTY inscribed on the headband and the oak wreath reverse enclosing ONE CENT. The application of Linderman's proposed silver alloy to the cent denomination continued the metallurgical survey begun in 1870, testing how a unified silver standard might extend even to the smallest coins in the American series.
