Description

Closing the eighth design group, J-923 renders the single-star headband Liberty Head and regular-issue eagle reverse in aluminum with a plain edge. This variety marks the end of the systematic design survey that paired each of three Liberty Head obverse types with both the STANDARD and eagle reverse, yielding thirty-six varieties (J-888 through J-923, including J-893a) that constituted the largest Liberty Head quarter pattern subseries in American numismatic history. The aluminum plain-edge format produces the most ethereal expression of this die combination, a design study in miniature that sacrifices all pretense of commercial viability for pure artistic documentation.

Rarity Notes

R-7. Extremely rare, estimated 4-12 examples survive.
