Description
Completing the seventh design group, J-917 renders the inscribed-diadem Liberty Head and regular-issue eagle reverse in aluminum with a plain edge. This variety concludes Barber's exploration of the classically styled diadem portrait across both the STANDARD and eagle reverse types, a twelve-variety survey (J-894 through J-899 and J-912 through J-917) that represents one of the most thorough examinations of any single obverse design in the 1870 program. The plain-edge aluminum striking is the rarest configuration in most groups, as these were the least to be included in the standard collector sets.
Rarity Notes
R-7. Extremely rare, estimated 4-12 examples survive.
